Glamorgan have secured one of Tier 2’s standout performers ahead of their planned rise into Tier 1 in 2027, with Francesca (Cesca) Sweet leaving Leicestershire after a prolific season to join the Welsh county.

Sweet joined the Foxes ahead of the 2025 campaign, the first under the ECB’s new tiered county structure, and quickly established herself as one of the most influential players in Tier Two. Across the Metro Bank One Day Cup League 2, she amassed 315 runs in nine matches, including two half-centuries and a century. In The Blast, this success was replicated, as she once again topped Leicestershire’s run charts. Sweet struck 296 runs from nine innings at 37.00. She also, along with Hayley Brown, compiled a club record 222 partnership in the One Day Cup.

The season saw Leicestershire reach both the quarter-finals of the T20 County Cup, before missing out to professional side Lancashire Thunder, and Finals Day in the Vitality Blast League 2.

Leicestershire skipper Rebecca Brooker said:

“Cesca has been phenomenal for us this year. She’s performed consistently, embraced pressure moments, and has been an incredible human to be around off the field too. That partnership at Duffield with Hayley is something truly special and will be remembered for a long time. While we’re sad to see her move on, we fully support her ambition and wish her every success as she prepares for a Tier 1 future.”

Head Coach Stephen Franklin added:

“Cesca made an impression from the moment she arrived on trial – her attitude, her hunger to improve and her all-round ability were clear straight away. She has been instrumental in helping us establish ourselves in Tier 2, and although we’re naturally disappointed to lose her, we understand and respect her desire to take the next step with Glamorgan. She leaves with our thanks and our very best wishes.”

Her move to Glamorgan aligns with the county’s rise into Tier 1 in 2027, providing the prolific batter a chance to compete at the highest level of the domestic game.
